Jakarta, April 30 -- Indonesia's sport climbing duo Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi and Kadek Adi Asih set a new women's speed relay world record at the 2026 Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China, on Wednesday night Jakarta time (April 30).

"We did not expect to break a world record, as our sole focus was on performing to the best of our ability," Dewi said after the event.

The pair clocked 13.174 seconds in the semifinal against China's Yafei Zhou and Lijuan Deng, who had briefly surpassed the previous mark with 13.178 seconds.

The record‑breaking run advanced them to the final, where they defeated South Korea's Jimin Jeong and Hanareum Sung to claim the gold medal.

"I present this medal to Indonesia," Dewi said.
