Jakarta, Oct. 8 -- Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid voiced Indonesia's support for incorporating a "safety by design" approach into artificial intelligence (AI) development, stressing the importance of prioritizing risk mitigation over rapid technological rollout.

Speaking at a press conference at her office in Jakarta on Wednesday (October 7), Meutya emphasized that developing sophisticated AI models requires adequate time to ensure that security and ethical measures are built in from the ground up.

"Indonesia certainly agrees - not necessarily with slowing down AI itself, but with the need to implement 'safety by design' for AI more cautiously, a process that inevitably takes time," she stated.
