Cimahi, West Java, April 2 -- The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) confirmed that 756 personnel will be deployed to Lebanon in late May 2026 as part of a rotation for the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission.
Commander of the TNI Peacekeeping Mission Center (PMPP) Major General Iwan Bambang Setiawan said Indonesia's policy in UN peacekeeping missions is independent, despite calls to withdraw similar to Malaysia's move.
"We cannot base our decisions on the interests of other countries. If Malaysia has its own policy, we respect that," he said after visiting the family of a fallen peacekeeping soldier in Cimahi, West Java, on Wednesday.
The rotation is scheduled for May 22, 2026, in line with the UN timetable.
