Jakarta, Aug. 5 -- The government will maintain heightened vigilance against forest and land fires ( karhutla ) until the end of August 2025, especially in seven at-risk provinces.

"Based on President Prabowo Subianto's directive, we must remain on alert until the end of August," Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said on Tuesday.

The alert status is based on the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency's (BMKG's) forecast of the dry season peaking until August, he informed.

The minister added that regions with high potential for forest and land fires are Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and East Kalimantan.
