Jakarta, March 18 -- Indonesia's state railway operator PT KAI sold more than 734,000 long-distance train tickets during the Eid al-Fitr travel season, reflecting a sharp rise in demand for rail travel across Java.

"This shows the high public interest in using trains during the Eid period," Public Relations Manager for KAI's Jakarta Operation Area 1 (Daop 1) Franoto Wibowo said.

From March 11-17, departures from Daop 1 Jakarta totaled 353,881 passengers, while arrivals reached 163,582. On March 17 alone, 56,041 passengers traveled across Java, with 51,561 using long-distance services.

Pasar Senen Station in Central Jakarta recorded the highest traffic, with 24,536 departures and 8,834 arrivals.
