Jakarta, Sept. 27 -- Indonesia's parliament on Saturday backed Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa's decision not to raise tobacco excise tariffs in 2026, citing pressures on the industry and risks to jobs and state revenue.

Commission XI Chairman Mukhamad Misbakhun, whose committee oversees state finances, fiscal and monetary policy, and financial services supervision, said the move was appropriate and deserved support.

"In my view, Mr. Purbaya's decision not to raise tobacco excise in 2026 is the right step and should be supported," Misbakhun said in a statement in Jakarta.
