Jakarta, June 29 -- Indonesia has transformed its nickel industry from a raw commodity exporter base into a strategic industrial force in less than a decade, emerging as the world's largest producer while seeking to capture more value in the global critical minerals market.

From Sulawesi to North Maluku, nickel that was once shipped abroad as unprocessed ore now feeds domestic smelters that supply materials for batteries and electric vehicles.
