Jakarta, March 28 -- The number of traffic accidents during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming and return travel period decreased by 7.8 percent compared to the previous year, according to National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

Listyo expressed his appreciation to the public and officers involved in securing the holiday travel period for their role in reducing traffic accidents, despite a 20.49 percent increase in the number of travelers, which reached 2.9 million people compared to 2025.

"I thank the public and all personnel for contributing to the decline in accidents, especially fatalities, this year," he said on Saturday.
