Jakarta, Aug. 15 -- Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) warned of possible tsunami waves up to three meters on Saturday after a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Nagekeo District, with alerts issued for parts of East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, and South Sulawesi.

The agency said the 15-km-deep quake was centered offshore about 30 Km northeast of Nagekeo District, East Nusa Tenggara Province, at 4:58 a.m. Western Indonesia time (WIB).

"Based on tsunami modeling, the earthquake has the potential to trigger a tsunami in East Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, and West Nusa Tenggara," BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Center Director Wijayanto said in Jakarta on Saturday morning.
