Jakarta, Feb. 21 -- Indonesia's National Alms Agency, or Baznas, is stepping up cooperation with Sudan to boost humanitarian relief as the African nation grapples with a prolonged civil war that has left more than 200,000 people dead, officials said.

The move followed a meeting Friday between Baznas Chairman Noor Achmad and Sudanese Ambassador to Indonesia Yassir Mohamed Ali Mohamed at the agency's headquarters in Jakarta, according to a statement released Saturday.

"We at Baznas are deeply concerned about the ongoing humanitarian crisis faced by our brothers and sisters in Sudan," Achmad said.
