Jakarta, May 22 -- Manpower Minister Yassierli has emphasized the need to strengthen compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards and shift toward preventive measures to reduce workplace accidents.

In a statement issued in Jakarta on Friday, he called on BPJS Ketenagakerjaan to play a central role in advancing this transition.

"The long-adopted reactive approach focused on compensation will not produce lasting impact," Yassierli said, adding that promotive and preventive programs would significantly reduce costs.

He cited 2025 data showing 319,224 work accident claims nationwide, including 9,834 fatal cases and 4,133 cases resulting in functional impairment or total disability.
