Jakarta, Aug. 17 -- Bank Indonesia (BI) officially launched the use of the QR Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) payment system for the Japanese market on Sunday, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Indonesian independence.
BI Governor Perry Warjiyo stated that the rollout marks the expansion of the system beyond the ASEAN border and a milestone in Indonesia's efforts to facilitate cross-border payment.
"Since its launching six years ago, QRIS has become a game changer for the digital payment ecosystem and strengthened Indonesia's economic sovereignty," Warjiyo stated here.
