Indonesia develops landfill methane into energy source
Jakarta, May 26 -- Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is developing technology to capture methane gas from landfills and convert it into alternative energy for surrounding communities, a researcher said on Tuesday.
Sri Wahyono, a researcher at BRIN's Center for Environmental and Clean Technology Research, said the system was developed through field experience and cooperation with landfill operators, including in Malang, East Java.
"This technology uses simple equipment such as pipes, suction blowers, and gas purification units," Sri said in a statement issued in Jakarta.
