Jakarta, Aug. 27 -- Indonesian authorities have mobilized 18,504 security personnel to maintain public order while guarding and serving citizens planning to stage mass demonstrations in Jakarta on Thursday.

Central Jakarta Police Chief Senior Commissioner Reynold EP Hutagalung said the force had prepared a layered approach to crowd control to facilitate safe, orderly, and conducive rallies and protests.

"We began rolling out security measures at 7 a.m.," he noted in a statement in Jakarta, adding that senior and supervising officers would be involved in the operation.
