Jakarta, July 28 -- Indonesia will support the preseason match between Chelsea and AC Milan at Jakarta's Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium on Aug. 8, Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir said Tuesday.

"We assure our support for the Chelsea-AC Milan match. We will do whatever we can while taking all limitations into account," he said.

The match between the European football clubs is expected to generate economic benefits through accommodation, transportation, ticket sales, taxes and other activities, Thohir said.

The event, organized by promoter Nine Sport Inc, will also promote Indonesia's image among the global sports community.

Thohir praised private-sector support for bringing major international sporting events to Indonesia.
