Jakarta, June 26 -- The Indonesian government and the House of Representatives (DPR) have agreed to appoint Minister of the State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi to chair the newly formed Layoff Mitigation Task Force.

Hadi announced the decision on Friday following a meeting at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta.

"Everyone agreed to ask me to head the Layoff Mitigation Task Force because of my capacity to bridge various parties and stakeholders relevant to this matter," Hadi told reporters during a press conference.

He noted that the task force is the result of a year of preparation. Its immediate priority will be to identify and map systemic issues within the industrial sector to protect Indonesian workers from sudden job cuts.
