Jakarta, Aug. 19 -- Foreign portfolio investment into Indonesia recorded net inflows of US$1.8 billion in the third quarter through Aug. 14, acting Bank Indonesia Governor Destry Damayanti said.

Speaking in Jakarta on Wednesday, Destry said inflows were supported by government global bond issuance and purchases of government bonds and Bank Indonesia Rupiah Securities, known as SRBI.

Overall, Bank Indonesia said Indonesia's balance of payments needs further strengthening to bolster external resilience amid continued global market volatility.

Indonesia's trade balance posted a cumulative surplus of US$3.58 billion from January through June, despite a US$450 million deficit in June, according to Bank Indonesia.
