Jakarta, Oct. 31 -- Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo said a cracked embankment in Kemang Village, South Jakarta, caused severe flooding in the area on Thursday.
"The Kemang Village embankment cracked and leaked, causing the Krukut River to overflow," he told reporters at Jakarta City Hall on Friday.
The overflowing river flooded Kemang Raya Street through Thursday evening and spread into residential areas in Bangka and Pela Mampang.
Pramono said local authorities had been instructed to repair the embankment immediately to prevent future flooding.
"Otherwise, Kemang will continue to be flooded during heavy rain," he added.
He confirmed that the Jakarta provincial government will continue normalizing the Krukut and Ciliwung rivers...
