Jakarta, Aug. 28 -- Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency's (BNPB) said Friday that a joint team was still battling a forest and land fire near homes and a school in Barru District, South Sulawesi Province.

Berton SP Panjaitan, acting head of BNPB's Data, Information and Disaster Communication Center, said crews were using ground-based water spraying to contain the fire.

"The fire was brought under control but reignited and spread. The fire is in Tellumpanua Village, Tanete Rilau Subdistrict, near Barru 3 State Senior High School," he said.

BNPB's Operations Control Directorate said a rapid assessment and witness accounts indicated the roughly three-hectare fire had first been detected two days earlier.
