Jakarta, May 12 -- House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani has urged the government and relevant policymakers to anticipate the weakening of the rupiah, which has now reached Rp17,503 per US dollar.

She said the rupiah's depreciation must continue to be anticipated through 2027. The government, she added, should also closely monitor global conditions contributing to the weakening.

"This situation must not have an impact that would cause Indonesia to fall into a downturn," she said after chairing a plenary meeting at the parliamentary complex here on Tuesday.
