Jakarta, Aug. 16 -- The number of people sheltering in evacuation centers after a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck East Nusa Tenggara Province on Saturday rose to 9,290, Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said.

Speaking here Sunday, acting Head of BNPB's Data, Information and Disaster Communications Center Berton SP Panjaitan said the latest figures showed the largest concentrations in Sikka, with 3,356 people, and Manggarai, with 2,078.

In Sikka District, 1,356 people are sheltering at Samador Sports Hall, while 2,000 others are staying independently across 10 locations.

About 500 people were also displaced in Nagekeo, West Nusa Tenggara's Bima City and South Sulawesi's Selayar Islands, bringing the total to 9,290....
