Medan, N Sumatra, Sept. 27 -- Indonesian authorities have seized 1.7 tons of narcotics, including 1.4 tons of crystal meth, during joint operations by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and North Sumatra Police from January to September 25, officials said.
The raids, conducted across North Sumatra and Aceh, also uncovered ecstasy, cocaine, and marijuana.
BNN Chief Police Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto said the seizures potentially saved 7.8 million lives from drug abuse.
"This is the result of strong collaboration between law enforcement agencies, from preventive to repressive actions, avoiding financial losses of up to IDR 2.65 trillion (USD170 million)," Suyudi told reporters in Medan on Friday.
