Manado, Oct. 10 -- The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has urged residents to remain calm after a 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck northwest of Karatung Island, Nanusa sub-district, Talaud Islands District, North Sulawesi, at 08:43 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) on Friday.
Coordinator for Data and Information at the BMKG Manado Geophysics Station, Muhammad Zulkifli, said the epicenter was located about 287 kilometers from the administrative center of Talaud Islands District.
He noted that the quake's impact was more directed toward Mindanao, the Philippines.
