Jakarta, April 29 -- The Indonesian government has earmarked Rp4 trillion (approximately US$230 million) from the state budget to improve railway safety at 1,800 crossings across Java following a deadly train crash in Bekasi on Monday.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto confirmed on Tuesday that the funding will come directly from the national budget.
The program is part of the government's 2026 work plan, according to State-Owned Enterprises Agency head Dony Oskaria, who highlighted its critical safety aspects.
President Prabowo Subianto announced the initiative earlier this week while visiting victims of a train collision in Bekasi that killed 15 and injured 84.
