Jakarta, Feb. 27 -- Indonesia's National Alms Agency (Baznas) distributed 400 food packages containing ready-to-eat meals and Ramadan snacks for iftar to underprivileged residents in Gasong Village, known as the scavengers' settlement, in Tebet, South Jakarta.
In a statement issued on Friday, Head of Baznas Distribution and Utilization Division Saidah Sakwan said the initiative was part of efforts to ease the burden of economically disadvantaged people during the fasting month.
"We channel the alms entrusted to Baznas into public welfare programs, including the provision of Ramadan meals for underprivileged residents such as those in Gasong Village, to ensure they can break their fast with proper food," she said.
