Batam, Riau Islands, March 29 -- Indonesia's Directorate General of Immigration is investigating alleged extortion targeting foreign nationals arriving at Batam Center International Ferry Terminal, a key gateway for visitors traveling from Singapore.

Riau Islands regional immigration office head Ujo Sutojo said the office has identified an employee with the initials JS, along with a third-party individual, AS, as suspects in the scheme.

"Any officers involved in the case will be penalized according to the disciplinary procedure," Sutojo affirmed during a press conference on Sunday.
