Jakarta, July 30 -- The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) has declared heightened readiness to respond to any potential impact from an 8.7-magnitude tectonic earthquake that struck off the eastern coast of Kamchatka, Russia, triggering a tsunami early warning for several regions in Indonesia.

Basarnas Deputy for Operations, Eko Suyatno, stated on Wednesday that all Technical Implementation Units (UPT) of SAR offices in North Sulawesi, North Maluku, West Papua, and Gorontalo have been instructed to increase preparedness levels.
