Pariaman, Aug. 1 -- About 2,000 participants from across Indonesia joined the Barefoot Running Padang Pariaman event on Saturday, running shoeless along a beach in Batang Anai Subdistrict, West Sumatra.

Padang Pariaman Regent John Kenedy Azis said the event was the first barefoot running race held on Sumatra Island, attracting runners from multiple regions.

He noted that the strong turnout demonstrated Padang Pariaman's growing appeal as a national sports destination.

John emphasized that the event was not only about sports, but also tourism and environmental preservation-allowing participants to enjoy the region's natural beauty while exercising.
