Denpasar, Bali, Aug. 19 -- Bali is set to open its largest women's correctional facility in Antap Village, Tabanan District, in 2026.

"The new prison, which will accommodate up to 1,200 inmates, is currently in its second phase of construction," Head of the Bali Provincial Directorate General of Corrections Regional Office Decky Nurmansyah said here on Tuesday.

He noted that the new facility will help reduce overcrowding at the Class II-A Kerobokan Women's Prison.

As of August 17, 2025, the Kerobokan prison housed 275 inmates, far exceeding its capacity of 120, or 129 percent over capacity. Fourteen of the inmates are foreign nationals.
