Jakarta, June 23 -- Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs stated regulations on the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) adoption and innovation drafted by the government are intended to encourage more productive use of the technology.

Director General of Digital Ecosystem at the ministry, Edwin Hidayat Abdullah, during the launch of Digital Ecosystem Alignment (DEAL) 2026 here on Tuesday, said there is a gap between the level of AI usage among Indonesians and the productivity gains generated from the technology.

"People ask why the government is regulating AI. This is not about compliance, it is an enabler. It provides a pathway for AI to become more productive," Abdullah said.
