India, Sept. 24 -- A woman and her family members were allegedly assaulted after she asked a group to reduce the volume of drums being played during a Ganesh immersion procession in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place on the night of September 20 in the Subhash Nagar area of Ulhasnagar. Police have registered a case against 12 people in connection with the alleged assault.

According to a police official, the 35-year-old woman had asked the group to move further down the street while playing the drums, as the loud noise was disturbing her two children, aged two years and four months.
