India, Oct. 1 -- Security has been tightened in Katra, the base camp for pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi district, ahead of Navratri, officials said.

Reasi SSP Mukund Tibrewal conducted a comprehensive review of security and traffic arrangements across Katra and along the pilgrimage route, including the track leading to Bhawan, parking areas, CCTV surveillance points, entry and exit locations and security checkpoints.

Officials said additional checkpoints and police personnel have been deployed at several locations as part of preparations for Navratri, which begins on October 11. The crowd management plan was also reviewed during the exercise.
