India, Oct. 27 -- Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Tuesday said sugarcane farmers and sugar factory owners had moved closer to resolving their dispute over sugarcane prices following nearly 10 hours of negotiations in Belagavi.

The proposed arrangement would see factory owners decide the price payable to farmers after the Centre fixes the minimum selling price (MSP) of sugar. Farmers have been demanding an incentive of Rs 6,000 per tonne of sugarcane.

According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), both sides are expected to announce their final decision within two days after consulting their respective stakeholders.
