India, June 23 -- A breakthrough was achieved on Monday in the tense standoff at Nagarasu Gurdwara in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district, with two Nihang Sikhs descending from the rooftop after more than 40 hours, following sustained talks with the administration and police.

Authorities said efforts are continuing to persuade the remaining Nihang Sikhs stationed on the roof to come down peacefully through dialogue.

"Positive results have emerged from the talks. Two Nihang Sikhs have come down from the roof and are currently in discussions with the administration and police. Dialogue is continuing with the remaining Nihang Sikhs as well," Rudraprayag Superintendent of Police Niharika Tomar said.
