India, Aug. 25 -- Three-term MLA Ameet Satam has been appointed as the new president of the Mumbai Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Monday. The decision comes ahead of the crucial Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, expected later this year.

Fadnavis expressed confidence that Satam's leadership would help the BJP reclaim control of the cash-rich civic body. Satam, 49, represents the Andheri West assembly constituency and has served as an MLA for three consecutive terms.
