Sri Lanka, Nov. 7 -- Two individuals have been taken into custody following a tense situation that arose during an attempt to stage a Satyagraha campaign by several Buddhist monks near the Ruwanweli Maha Seya in Anuradhapura.

The Satyagraha was staged in protest against the Anuradhapura Sacred Area Development Project, police said.

Earlier, tensions had escalated at the 'Dansal' premises near the Ruwanweli Maha Seya after a group, including several Buddhist monks, attempted to launch the protest campaign.

The situation intensified when police officers arrived at the location and removed the group, including the monks, from the premises.
