Sri Lanka, March 8 -- On the occasion of International Women's Day, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake highlighted that International Women's Day is an opportunity to recognize the vital role women play in Sri Lanka's economic, political, social, and cultural development.

He emphasised that although the day celebrates women's rights, freedom, and security, appreciation for their contributions should not be limited to a single day.

The President highlighted that women, who make up 52% of Sri Lanka's population, contribute significantly to the national economy. Beyond their unpaid role as homemakers, women are key contributors to sectors such as garments, plantations, foreign employment, health, education, and services.
