Police warn of tougher action against reckless drivers
Srilanka, June 30 -- Motorists found driving in a dangerous or reckless manner will face stricter legal action, including prosecution under criminal law in addition to existing traffic laws, Sri Lanka Police have announced.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Traffic Control and Road Safety, W.P.J. Senadeera said serious traffic violations will no longer be dealt with solely through spot fines, with offenders instead being produced before court.
He said police recorded 321 cases of dangerous and reckless driving on June 27 and a further 315 cases on June 28.
