Sri Lanka, Aug. 20 -- Eight individuals have been arrested while allegedly carrying out excavations in search of archaeological artifacts in Bharathipuram, Kilinochchi.

Police said the suspects were arrested during a raid conducted based on information received by the Kilinochchi Police.

The suspects, aged between 32 and 58, are residents of Mundalama, Ukuwela, Dummalasuriya, Piliyandala, Jaffna, Madampe and Keselwatta, police said.

The Kilinochchi Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
