Srilanka, July 23 -- The 769th Esala Perahera of the historic Sri Uthpalawanna Sri Vishnu Maha Devalaya in Devinuwara will commence today (23) and continue until August 5 amid heightened security.



The annual pageant will begin with the traditional Kapa planting ceremony, marking the start of the religious festivities in keeping with longstanding customs and rituals. The celebrations will conclude with the Randoli Perahera.



The Devinuwara Devalaya, also known as the Uthpalawanna Devalaya, is one of Sri Lanka's most revered shrines. It is believed to have been built during the reign of King Dappula Sen and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, who is traditionally identified with the deity Upulvan in Sri Lankan Buddhist tradition.
