Srilanka, Oct. 18 -- Deputy Chief Prelate of the Ramanna Sect and Chief Incumbent of the Getambe Rajopavanaramaya in Kandy, Most Venerable Kappetiyagoda Sirivimala Thera has passed away at the age of 95, sources say.



Venerable Kappetiyagoda Sirivimala Thera, who was suffering from an illness over a period of time, was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Kandy.

He had rendered an immense service to the Buddhist revival and cultural development of Sri Lanka, with the Getambe Rajopavanaramaya in Kandy serving as the center of his activities.

He was also held in high esteem as a Buddhist monk who fearlessly raised his voice in defence of the country and religion on various occasions of national and religious significance.
