Court directs IGP to probe Wimal's controversial statement at SLPP rally
SriLanka, Sept. 18 -- The Colombo Magistrate's Court has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to conduct an investigation and submit a report to the court regarding a request made by the Bribery Commission to determine whether a statement made by former Minister Wimal Weerawansa, during a rally held on September 12 in Anuradhapura, amounted to contempt of court.
Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara made the request while presenting a compact disc containing the relevant speech material to the court on behalf of the Bribery Commission, when the complaint filed against Namal Rajapaksa in connection with the Airbus incident was taken up.
