Srilanka, July 1 -- The National Transport Commission (NTC) and the Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (LPBOA) have agreed to increase the bus fares effective from July 6 (Monday).



According to LPBOA Chairman Gemunu Wijeratne, it has been decided that fares for journeys up to 100 kilometres will be increased by 12%, while fares for journeys exceeding 100 kilometres will rise by 20%.



Accordingly, the minimum private bus fare will increase from Rs. 30 to Rs. 34 with effect from July 6.



Meanwhile, for luxury buses fares will be increased by 12% for journeys up to 100 kilometres while for more than 100 kilometres it will be increased by 15%.
