Sri Lanka, Aug. 17 -- A total of 257 persons have died due to drowning incidents so far this year, police said.

Police Media Spokesman, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) F.U. Wootler stated that among the victims were 37 women and 220 men.

Meanwhile, the Police Life Saving Division has successfully rescued 69 locals and 33 foreign tourists from drowning incidents, according to the Police Media Spokesman.
