Sri Lanka, Aug. 7 -- Twenty-eight inmates who sustained injuries during the unrest at Pallansena Prison have been transferred to the Welikada Prison Hospital for treatment.

A tense situation erupted at the prison this morning (07), following which the Police, Special Task Force (STF), Riot Control Unit, and the Air Force were deployed to bring the situation under control.

Security forces fired tear gas to disperse the inmates and subsequently succeeded in restoring control of the prison, with its administration being handed back to the Department of Prisons.
