SPRINGFIELD, Ill., April 27 -- The Illinois Courts Office issued the following opinion on March 27:

1. Held: Defendant's sentence of seven years and three months for unlawful use or possession of a weapon by a felon is affirmed where the circuit court did not abuse its discretion.

2. Following a bench trial, defendant Dondre Young was convicted of unlawful use or possession of a weapon by a felon (720 ILCS 5/24-1.1(a) (West 2020)) and sentenced to an extended term of seven years and three months' imprisonment. On appeal, defendant concedes that his challenge to the excessiveness of his sentence was not preserved because he failed to file a motion to reconsider sentence.
