Agartala, Feb. 8 -- A first-track court in West Tripura on Thursday awarded life imprisonment to a middle-aged man convicted of killing his wife in May 2020 based on the testimonies of 18 witnesses, including his son.

Additional Public Prosecutor Arabindo Deb said, "The convict Goutam Chakraborty, on May 8, 2020, in the A D Nagar area of the city, attacked his wife, Anima Chakraborty, with a sharp weapon, leading to fatal injuries to the body following a family dispute."

The accused fled from the scene, leaving his wife bleeding on the bed. Their son Nayan Chakraborty recovered the body the next morning and complained of a murder charge against his father, which led to the arrest of the convict, Deb stated.
