Shillong, April 18 -- Over 22 lakh electorates in Meghalaya are expected cast their votes on Friday to elect two new members of Lok Sabha from Shillong and Tura parliamentary constituencies, with the number of female voters in the matrilineal state outnumbering males as has been the traditional trend.

Voting would begin at 7 am and continue until 4 pm.

Chief Electoral Officer Dr. B.D.R.Tiwari said 40 companies of the Central Armed Police Force have been deployed in the 36 assembly segments covering the Shillong seat and 24 in Tura for the smooth conduct of the polls.

A total of 14048 polling personnel have been deployed to all 3,512 polling stations.

The total voters are 22, 26,567 of which 10, 99,517 are males and 11, 27,047 are female...
