Shillong, April 19 -- Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday urged voters to exercise their franchise in record numbers as the single-phase Lok Sabha polls began at 7 am on Friday.

"I drove myself to the polling station this morning with the hope of casting my vote, but I was surprised that electorates had already lined up. I am in line to cast my vote at 6:30 am. I urge every citizen to come out and exercise their democratic right," Conrad posted in X, formerly Twitter.

Sitting Congress MP Vincent, who is seeking re-election for the fourth consecutive term, was the first voter among the six candidates from Shillong Lok Sabha seats to cast his vote in Lamyrsiang-Polling Station under Sutnga Saipung assembly constituency.
