Kolhapur, Feb. 10 -- Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced on Saturday that the government will give funds of Rs 50,000 to more than 70,000 distressed farmers before code of conduct for Lok Sabha elections come into force in the country.

Addressing a function in Chandgad tehsil town of the district this afternoon, he said that the government has already given an assurance to reduce water charges for farmers and now it has decided to give Rs 50,000 as incentive subsidy to farmers before announcement of code of conduct for general elections.

He also announced Rs 10 crore as funds for Chandgad Municipal Council for various development works.
